Under the proposed scheme, the council plans to sell the site for over £10 m, with the funds generated re-invested to improve other city facilities, including two swimming pools.

The proposed £41m scheme for site purchase and redevelopment includes £2.5m improvements to the Barbican Auditorium and a new council-owned community swimming pool and fitness suite, plus up-grades for the Yearsley and Edmund Wilson pools.

The proposed development would also deliver a brand new 125 bedroom hotel linked to the auditorium, 240 stylish one and two bedroom apartments, including 60 meeting the criteria for affordable homes and a much-needed, up-graded 270 capacity care park. Around 90 new jobs are expected to be created.
